Source: IPCC Policymakers Summary 2013
The easiest document to read is the press release .
The headline conclusion is “Human influence on the climate system is clear. This is evident in most regions of the globe”
Even the Summary for Policymakers is incredibly difficult to read, and constructed in an obscure way with all the diagrams shunted off to the end. Several sub- committee reports have yet to be published.
If you want to dig into the detail visit the main IPCC website, and work from there. But we will have to wait for the detail that will focus more regionally on the impacts on our locality. Already there are reports that changes in the Atlantic currents circulation may mean that the UK will be subject to cooling rather than warming, and increased frequency of extreme weather. That could be bad news for the Solent.
Already BBC have assembled a wide range of expert reactions to the report. For example, Professor John Shepherd of Southampton University said “Uncertainty is a reason to be cautious, but not a reason to do nothing.”
As more information becomes available, we will try to interpret it.
